The 2014 Alfa Romeo Giulietta promises, new engines, a fresh face and even more technology than before, So does it deliver? Suzanne Keane went to the Isle of Man to find out.

What is it? 2014 improvements to Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta include updated styling, new styling and some new technology!

First impressions of the Alfa Romeo Giuilietta?  There’s no doubt that Giulietta is a head turner and the new 2014 model comes with a new front grille, new alloy wheel designs and a few new colours – Cobalto Blue, Metallo Bronze and Luna Pearl (this looks like a silver car on a dull day but when the sun shines the pearl effect really shines through).

What about the interior? The Giulietta is an attractive car and this doesn’t end once you’re inside the cabin. The sporty dashboard comes with a 5” touchscreen multimedia system as standard (6.5” if you upgrade to sat nav) and plenty of options for connectivity. There’s 350 litres of boot space and for a hatchback it has plenty of rear legroom.

And on the road? We drove the 1.4 Multiair 170bhp petrol and 2.0 150bhp Diesel models. I was most looking forward to the petrol version but the diesel surprised me and was a much more responsive engine and so would be my first choice! All Giuliettas come with Alfa’s D.N.A. system and around town the Normal setting was perfect while Dynamic gave it that extra bit of a kick on the open road. The Giuiletta has stiff and sporty suspension which is great for driving but possibly not the best if comfort is your priority.

How much? Prices for the 2014 Alfa Romeo Giulietta start at £18,235 for the 1.4 TB 120hp Progression, while the diesel range starts at £19,170 for the 1.6 JTD 105hp Progression.

How Safe? Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta comes with six airbags, stability control and has a 5 star NCAP rating. It’s also fited with DST (which prompts divers to apply the correct steering input in an emergency through impulses in the steering wheel) and a Pre-Fill system which arms the brakes for emergency braking if it senses the driver is losing control. 2014 models will also come with a tyre pressure monitoring system.

What about my options? There’s are 4 trim levels available – upgrading to “Distrinctive” will get you a cooled glove box, rear parking sensors, cruise control, an alarm and an armrest. Exclusive will get you 17” alloy wheels, Microfibre seats, rain sensing wipers, tinted windows, sports suspension, red stitching on your steering wheel and aluminium pedals & footrest. For the ultimate girlracer experience the “Sportiva Nav” trim level comes with 18” alloys, red Brembo brake callipers, white stitching on your steering wheel and Leather/Alcantara seats.
