It’s that time of year again, January 9th 2014 to be exact, the start of the Racing season is upon us and to kick it all off is the Autosport Show at Birmingham’s NEC. I was asked to attend the unveiling of Kahn Designs new styling for the 2013Range Rover. Having limited knowledge of the brand and the exclusivity it gives to its customers I was intrigued to knowmore. It didn’t take me long to find the website and discover the range of superb cars that Kahn have been busy engineering into a pleasurable experience for anyone’s eyes.
Looking through the conversions available you can really get a sense of craftsmanship and love that goes into the design. As I look through the array of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches and Maserati’s I wonder how you could possibly improve on perfection, but with the subtle design features that Kahn Design bring about there is no denying that there is a certain hint of improvement achievable in all marques. To quote a line from the website ‘vehicles should reflect who you are’ and with a Kahn Design modified motor you are definitely intent on making a statement.
The vehicle I was here to see was the Range Rover 600LE (Luxury Edition). Underneath the black silk cover you could just make out the outline and the sumptuous curves associated with the stunning Range Rover. What could possibly make this car look any better? At 10:45am the covers came off and underneath was a textured matt black finish work of art. The recognised ‘Range Rover’ badge removed and just four letters replacing it on the bonnet. The conversion includes a new front and rear bumper, front grille, carbon fibre side vents, rear boot lid spoiler and Crosshair exhaust tail pipes. This bespoke design doesn’t grab you by the throat and shake you, instead it politely taps you on the shoulder announcing its arrival, the modifications make this an imposing vehicle but not too much were you could become the victim of jealous vandalism. The rear bumper comes with a diffuser allowing for the exhaust conversion and makes for a simple yet defined behind.
The Range Rover on show had huge 23” RS600 wheels that fit nicely into the arches and make the brakes and discs look inferior. All badging on the vehicle has been removed leaving plenty of room for Kahn Design to re brand. In case you forget what you’re driving Kahn Designs have badged the B posts, a gentle reminder that what your about to step into is something very special indeed.
The interior is an equally impressive place to be with the hand crafted leather quilted and perforated seats that hug you tightly in a pleasingly aesthetic cabin. The changes inside are stylish without changing too much from the original sharp instrumentation and detail.
The Range Rover 600LE is a beautiful, classy andsurprisingly elegant four wheel drive, the subtle conversion leads you into a dream world of ‘if only I had enough money for one!’ With so many companies jumping onto the customisation bandwagon it is all about offering great products that appeal. I am happy to say that Kahn Design, a British built company are going from strength to strength, and I personally cannot wait to see the up and coming Range Rover 600 Performance.
